Retro Evolution Device would fit best in an Emerald-based tempo or combo deck that wants to “upgrade” low-cost characters with strong on-play effects into more powerful midgame threats ahead of curve, especially in lists that run expendable early characters (like ones that replace themselves or provide value when banished) and high-impact 4–6 cost targets to cheat out; it’s particularly attractive in aggressive-midrange Emerald builds that can maintain board pressure while turning a cheap character into a stronger one without spending full ink. However, because it costs 3 ink plus 1 more to activate, requires exerting, and demands you already have a character in play to sacrifice, it’s fairly slow and setup-heavy compared to more consistent ramp or tempo tools like Just In Time (which cheats a character into play more directly) or Emerald’s bounce and tempo cards that generate advantage without card disadvantage, so while it has combo potential and could shine in a dedicated synergy de
