Hello, everyone!

Today I'm going to present a “pet deck” of mine, which is what we call when a deck isn't especially strong, but it's an idea that I put together and have been updating since the 2nd set (Rise of the Floodborn). It is a “combo” deck, something that is also not very usual in Lorcana, but as you will see, it is quite synergistic and has paths to victory beyond the combo itself.

Let’s get to know the deck based on “The Queen” (from Snow White!)

Introducing the Deck - Strategy and Gameplan

What does "combo deck" mean?

“Combo” is just an abbreviation of the word “combination”, and basically indicates a deck in which two or more cards were designed to be used together, since they have a very strong synergy between them. The idea is that, by achieving this combination, you either win the game, or put yourself in a very good position to win the game.

The “combo” of our deck involves the interaction between The Queen - Disguised Peddler and high-value Lore characters.

Let's get to know the deck list and understand the role of each card:

The Key Piece

As mentioned, this is the main card of the deck - the goal is always to find one copy in the starting hand.

It may seem strange that a card like this is the deck's main way of winning, right? After all, it's a character with relatively low stats, and doesn't even have a Lore value, making its quest ability useless.

The secret is in the ability to exert it and discard a card from your hand to gain Lore equal to the discarded card's Lore value. Let's see below what are the best options to discard:

The High-Lore Characters for Discard

All of these characters are relatively high-cost, so they would take a long time to enter play. However, they're not in the deck to be played, but rather discarded by the Evil Queen's ability! Each of them generates 4 Lore points when discarded, which is already 20% of what is needed to win the game! And to speed up the win, we have some very special cards in the deck:

The cards that "Ready" Characters

These 3 cards ready your exerted characters, which means they'll allow the Queen to repeat her ability in the same turn! Although the cards create a restriction on which the character can't Quest for the rest of the turn, the Queen's ability is not a Quest, so it can be repeated whenever she readies!

So, now, our “combo” becomes quite clear:

Robin Hood and Fan the Flames are just examples, as the deck has redundancy in both the characters to discard and the cards that ready others. The important here is to visualize that this combination allows you to generate 4 to 12 Lore in a single turn, and you can do it as early as turn 4!

Plan B

When you can't find a Queen, the deck has Wreck-It Ralph as a Plan-B, since Ralph has a good synergy with the cards that ready characters. You can use it to fight against something, even if it doesn't defeat the opposing character, as the idea is just for Ralph to take damage. And then, after the fight, ready it and get your Lore burst

Drawing Cards

A potential problem is the deck quickly running out of cards in hand, which makes it difficult to activate the Queen multiple times. To try and remedy this, Donald Duck is our choice for card draw - although it is a symmetrical effect, i.e. also benefiting your opponent, you get to use the cards first, as the extra draw occurs on your turn.

With this advantage, it is possible to win the game quickly, and then it won't matter how many extra cards your opponent has.

Interactions

Some other Disney villains are also here to help the Evil Queen on her mission! Gaston and Queen of Hearts will help to control the opponent's board (Gaston, in fact, can even be readied to fight twice in the same turn), while Ursula prevents actions and songs that could help the opponent regain tempo. Also, with so many villains available in the deck, you'll often get extra Lore from Evil Comes Prepared !

Analysis and Turn Strategy

With each card explained, as well as the interactions/combo that leads to victory, let's understand the deck's sequencing:

Starting hand and turns 1-4: The most important card, as already explained, is The Queen - Disguised Peddler. It's the main piece of the deck, so don't hesitate to swap a lot of cards in your hand to find it - or Wreck-It Ralph as a Plan B. Also look for characters that help control the board early on, like Gaston. Keep in mind that this deck doesn't need a lot of ink to function, so you can usually stop making ink when you get to 4-5, which in turn preserves cards in your hand.

Midgame, turns 4-8: This is where you need to look for an 8+ Lore turn with the Evil Queen and put a lot of pressure on your opponent to find an answer immediately or lose the game. Even if you are “behind” in the board, you can easily take the Lore lead with the combo. Use interactions (especially Ursula) to protect your characters, and Ralph can also help if the opponent manages to remove the Queen.

End game, turns 9+: As a last resort, start making more ink to eventually play your high cost characters, especially Robin Hood and Mickey. Although risky, if it's your best way to win the game, don't hesitate to go this route.

Conclusion

And we reach the end of another article! This deck manages to be extremely explosive, thanks to the combo, and achieve victory even in games that it seemed to be far behind. This is one of the fun things when playing a combo deck!
