The Apex of Competitive Lorcana!

Hello, everyone!

Last weekend, June 28-29 of 2025, the First Lorcana World Championship took place at Walt Disney World, Florida/USA.

Twenty-eight players faced off over two days of competition - and in two different formats! - to find out who would be the first Lorcana world champion.

In previous articles, we talked about the Limited format - Super Sealed -link outside website and the Constructed format - Triple Deck Constructed -link outside website, so it's worth checking them out if you want to contextualize the pre-worlds analysis.

In addition to the tournament itself, the broadcast also talked about several news for the next season of Lorcana's competitive events, with the inclusion of new regions in the official calendar! So let's take a look at everything that happened, and also talk about the new Lorcana world champion!

Lorcana Challenges - More events and more regions!

One of the most anticipated announcements during the broadcast was the official event calendar for next season. The Disney Lorcana Challenges, or DLCs, were a huge success during its first season, and before the World Cup, Ravensburger had already hyped that the next batch of events would be even bigger.

They certainly step up the game, already announcing dates and cities for three Challenges in the United States, and three in Europe. There will also be an event in Australia, too. These are the regions that had already received Challenges in the first season.

The announcement also mentioned the new regions that will receive DLCs for Season Two: China, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Brazil! The big news is certainly Brazil entering the official circuit, with no less than two Lorcana Challenges and one Championship, all starting in the second quarter of 2026.

Ravensburger showed a lot of attention and care with players all over the world that love Disney Lorcana, and it was great to see a focus on developing new regions!

The World Championship

The main event, which crowned the competitive season, had a special broadcast and a lot of interaction between the casters, designers, competitors, and the spectators watching at home or at their LGS'.

Throughout the broadcast, we got to know more about the participants of this first World Championship - through interviews, their favorite Disney movies, their favorite cards, etc. There was even a game where the players had to draw their favorite card from memory!

The announcers showed experience in their analysis, and also had their moment to take the stage - there was a small tournament between the casters, and several pack rushes to entertain the audience while there were no games to broadcast.

So let's analyze the results of the World Championship!

Limited - Super Sealed

Super Sealed was an excellent testing of waters for the participants, who already stood out for their knowledge and skill in deck building. At the end of the three rounds, four competitors were undefeated: Zach Bivens, Raphael Brule, Elie Vepierre, and Edmond Chiu.

Of the undefeated, it is interesting to note that only Raphael Brule did not make it to the Top 8. The other three competitors achieved the five wins needed on Day 1 to make Top 8, with four other members going 2-1 on Super Sealed. Only Morgan Shamblin, among the Top 8, had a negative result in Sealed: 1-2.

Even though there were only three rounds, the format undoubtedly raised the level of competition, and brought an additional challenge for the participants: analyzing and managing their card pool to get the most out of it and build a synergistic and efficient deck. An excellent start on the journey to crown a champion!

Constructed - Triple Deck Constructed

In Constructed, we saw all colors represented among each competitor's three decks. As we mentioned in our Worlds pre-analysis articlelink outside website, most combinations considered the strategic aspect of benching an opponent's deck, and we had many close games on the broadcast - decided by one Lore point, or a mistimed challenge, or a poorly timed Song.

In terms of archetypes, most of the competitors agreed on some of the points we made in our previous article's analysis. We had twenty Ruby-Sapphire among the twenty-eight participants, five Ruby-Amethysts, and three Ruby-Amber - the latter was a pleasant surprise that we will no doubt cover in detail in a future article.

The most popular three-deck combination among participants was, as we predicted, Ruby-Sapphire - Amber-Steel - Amethyst-Emerald, with ten of the twenty-eight players - 35% of the metagame!

The second most popular was the one that allowed strategic flexibility in benching an opponent's deck, and brought the title to Dinh Khang Pham: Ruby-Sapphire, Amethyst-Steel, Amber-Emerald, with seven of the twenty-eight players - 25% of the metagame.

These two combinations even faced off in the tournament finals!

The Champion - Dinh Khang Pham!

In the finals, two known players in the Lorcana competitive circuit brought the highest level of play throughout their five games.

Edmond Chiu, who reached the final undefeated, had the classic combination: Ruby-Sapphire, Amber-Steel, and Amethyst-Emerald.

Dinh Khang Pham, who lost only one match on Day 1, in Super Sealed, had the flexible combination: Ruby-Sapphire, Amber-Emerald, and Amethyst-Steel.

Ed got a headstart 2-1, needing only to win with his last available deck - Ruby-Sapphire - to be crowned champion. However, DKP showed that he is a master not only with Ruby-Sapphire, but also against his favorite deck! He managed to reverse sweep, turning the match around to 3-2, and with that became Lorcana's first world champion!

Conclusion

The World Cup was a time of great entertainment, publicity, and appreciation, not only for the team responsible for the broadcast, but also for the players, who provided epic Lorcana matches throughout the weekend, and for the game's creators and designers, who saw first-hand the success of its development.

Lorcana finishes its first competitive season with a bang, while also opening the doors to the rest of the world in its next season - and all this without excluding support for independent event organizers.

A big hug and until next time!
