Lorcana's Second Chapter begins!
Hello, everyone!
In a few weeks, we will have the long-awaited release of Fabled, Lorcana's ninth set. As explained in this article
, Fabled is a milestone for what Ravensburger refers to as the next chapter in Disney Lorcana, for a few reasons:
- It is the first set to be released after the First Lorcana World Championship, thus marking the beginning of a new competitive season;
- It is the set that brings the Rotation in the Core Constructed format, which in short means only cards from the 5th set onwards remain valid;
- It also marks the beginning of the new format, Infinity, in which all sets are valid, and so far has no banned cards - therefore, Hiram Flaversham-Toymaker and Fortisphere can be used normally;
- And, finally, it also marks the first set with a considerable number of reprints, that is, cards already released in previous sets. Being reprinted means the card will be legal for use in Core Constructed;
As you can see, there is a lot going on in Fabled, so today we'll detail a bit more all that info, talk about the set's theme and look at some of the spoilers - both old and new cards! Let's go!
Fabled - Lorcana's 9th Set!
Fabled is scheduled for pre-release on August 29, 2025, with the official release on September 5, a week later, as usual.
The set will have 204 cards, which has been the standard number for all Lorcana sets to date.
Fabled's distinguishing features, collecting-wise, are mainly two: new rarities and reprints.
New Rarities - Epic and Iconic
So far, Lorcana has had six rarities:
- Common;
- Uncommon;
- Rare;
- Super Rare;
- Legendary;
- Enchanted;
It's worth remembering that the Enchanted rarity actually consists of differentiated art, and some special treatment—foil, texture, etc.—of cards that already exist at other rarities.
The new rarities, Epic and Iconic, will also consist of special treatment for cards already existing at lower rarities. It's worth noting that, in terms of rarity, Epic is between Legendary and Enchanted, while Iconic is considered above the Enchanted rarity.
Fabled will have a total of 18 Iconics, with their own symbol and special treatment, like this one:

Iconics will be the greatest rarity of all within Lorcana. In the set, only two cards will have the Iconic rarity, and appropriately enough, they will be Disney's most famous couple: Mickey and Minnie! Here's Mickey's beautiful Iconic card:

Reprints
Of the 204 cards in the set, 171 will be reprints from previous sets, representing over 80% of Fabled.
Being reprinted means that, in terms of legality in constructed formats, any previously printed version of the card can be used—you can use either the previous set's card, the Fabled card, or even a combination of them in your deck!
While reprints aren't new to the game—after all, we already had some great reprints in Captain Hook - Forceful Duelist and Dalmatian Puppy - Tail Wagger in Reign of Jafar—the fact that Fabled consists largely of already existing cards indicates two things:
1. Ravensburger is concerned with bringing new players to the game, and therefore it's important to facilitate access to cards that, until now, were only available through older sets, and you solve that by reprinting them in a new set;
2. There's also a concern about retaining current players, and the reprints minimize the risk of several decks becoming completely unusable after rotation.
Of course, this isn't to disregard the 33 new cards that will be introduced into the game. But it's undeniable that Fabled offers players great security in terms of the validity and continuity of their decks in the Core Constructed format. Let's analyze some of the already confirmed reprints:

Ursula is one of the most important cards in Emerald ink today, practically a staple in any deck with this ink. Her combination of effects—low cost, relevant Willpower, disruption, and knowledge of the opponent's hand—make her a must-have, and being reprinted at the same original rarity (Uncommon) is a very welcome sight.

Just like the previous card, Kuzco plays an important role in the Amethyst ink, combining a cheap and efficient character, for the early game, who will always replace itself, generating some value.

Lorcana has many cards that work around a theme, and Moana is one of the best cards for the Princess archetype. Her text, in fact, received a slight update, and now she readies only exhausted Princesses - an important errata, which fixes an issue where if you controlled two Moanas at the same time, one would fizzle the other one's ability.

Sapphire ink has excellent cards that allow for deck manipulation, and the Develop Your Brain reprint keeps a great staple of the color in Core Constructed. Simple and efficient, yet crucial for ensuring consistency, especially in the early turns.

One of the important themes of Ruby ink, which is seen in many different archetypes, is the direct-gain Lore cards, affectionately nicknamed Burns. Pirate's Life is one of the most effective, especially because it's a song, and is part of a Burn deck we recently highlighted in another article.

LET'S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS! The Steel ink has several songs focused on board control, and the Strength of a Raging Fire reprint helps to maintain this important characteristic of the color.
New Cards
As mentioned, Fabled will also feature 33 new cards, accompanying its 171 reprints. Some of these cards also feature Disney animations that had not yet appeared in Lorcana!
Dumbo

One of Disney's oldest animations, from 1941, tells the story of a little elephant who learns to fly to save his mother and other circus animals.
In Lorcana, flying is symbolized by the Evasive ability, and this keyword seems to be the focus for the Dumbo cards. The legendary has a very interesting ability that could spwan a whole new archetype for the color, or simply be used because of the combination of Lore gain + Card draw.
A Goofy Movie

In contrast to Dumbo, the Goofy Movie is much more recent - 1995 -, and shows Goofy dealing with the ups and downs of being a father and looking after his teenage son, Max. In the film, Goofy wants to go on vacation in order to get closer to Max, who in turn wants to go to a concert of the rock star Powerline, and impress his girlfriend.
In Lorcana, all of this dynamic from the film is represented with a focus on songs and the Singer ability, which appears on several cards—including, of course, those representing the star, Powerline. Until now, Ruby ink wasn't thought of as a color that could be the center of a Song deck, but Powerline can certainly change that!
Conclusion
Everything surrounding Fabled shows that the set's hype is far from unjustified - and Ravensburger understands that the set will indeed be a game-changer for Lorcana.
It's no surprise that the set is packed with new features while at the same time also featuring a majority of reprints - an impressive feat!
We'll continue to follow the last Fabled spoilers and hope for more excellent reprints!
